Family Favorite

After cooking all week, I decided tonight was J's night to cook. So, we grilled out (as we always do when I ask him to cook). Burgers, grilled pineapple and pears. It was phenomenal. Nothing special about the fruit, just simple and tasty. The burgers are the same ones we've been making for years, but this time, he took my advice and topped them with caramelized onions, bacon and cheddar cheese. YUMMO!  Pictures today are lame, I was so stoked about eating that my mind slipped taking pictures until I'd eaten 3/4 of it. My apologies.... hopefully you still get the idea.

Burgers:

1 slice white bread without crust, cut into 1/4" pieces
2 TBSP milk
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp pepper
1 medium garlic glove, minced
2 tsp BBQ sauce or A1 ( or whatever kind of sauce you fancy)
1.5 lbs extra lean (16%) ground beef
veggie ( or canola) oil for your grill grate

1. Mash bread & milk in medium bowl. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic and sauce.

2. Break up beef into small pieces, add to bread mixture. Lightly mix until it forms a cohesive mass. Form 4 patties.

3. Cook 2-4 minutes on 1st side for. For medium well cook about 3 minutes on side  two, or 4 minutes for well done.

This time we cooked some bacon on the stove before starting the grill. We have a side burner on our grill, so J took a pan out, and sauteed the onions in some butter out there until they were translucent. Once the burgers were done, he put on (in THIS order, and yes its important) caramelized onions, bacon, and cheese. We toast our buns.... just a little butter, and throw em on the grill the last couple minutes.

The fruit:

My boys LOVE canned pineapple, so I just busted out a can and strung em up on some shish kabob sticks, cooked em for about 10 minutes totally, rotating as necessary.  Pears, I just halved, those were on about 15 minutes, just so they could get that caramely outter crust. Sprinkle your pineapple with sugar for a little contrast. YUMMO!
